ANNUAL MARKET AND TECHNOLOGY REPORTS
The Renewable Energy Division of the International Energy Agency (IEA) consistently produces several new reports on renewable energy each year. Here is a current list of IEA publications on renewable energy stretching from 2003-2017. In recent years, over twenty new "technology roadmaps" were published for a number of low-carbon energy technologies, including the following renewable technologies; Bioenergy for Heat and Power, Biofuels for Transport, Geothermal Heat and Power, Hydropower, Solar Thermal Electricity, Solar Heating and Cooling, Solar Photovoltaic Energy, and Wind Energy.
The IEA's annual Renewables Information 2017 -- with 2016 data provides comprehensive statistics on renewable energy supply for all OECD countries.
There are also many publications, news postings, links, and other information coming from the IEA "Technology Collaboration Programmes." Each agreement is a set of projects called annexes and each project can result in its own set of reports. There is separate agreement for each renewable energy technology plus a cross-cutting agreement on "Renewable Energy Technology Deployment" that focuses on markets, policy, and finance.
For example, the report Solar Heat Worldwide: Global Market Development and Trends in 2016 (Edition 2017), released last May, by Franz Mauthner, Werner Weiss and Monika Spoerk-Duer, International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling Program (Paris, 2017), is the best annual source of data and trends in solar hot water and heating, including avoided carbon emissions.
Annual industry reports and ongoing news streams are produced by a number of industry associations, including the U.S. Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) U.S. Solar Market Insight 2016 Year in Review, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) U.S. Wind Industry Annual Market Report for Year Ending 2016, the SolarPower Europe Global Market Outlook for Solar Power / 2017-2021, and the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF) Solar Thermal Markets in Europe - Trends and Market Statistics 2015.
For wind power there is one main reference: One is the Global Wind Report 2016 - Annual Market Update by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), which is a free annual report providing information on all countries and regions, industry trends, policies, emerging markets, and five-year forecasts. GWEC also produces a biannual long-term scenario-based report, which most recent edition is the Global Wind Energy Outlook 2016 (for more information see the Renewables Global Futures Report page).
The International Hydropower Association and the Geothermal Energy Association also produce their own annual market and technology report, which most recent editions are the 2017 Hydropower Status Report and the 2016 Annual U.S. & Global Geothermal Power Production Report, respectively.
Every year EurObserv'ER also publishes Renewable Energy "Barometers," which provide information on market trends for biofuels, biogas, solid biomass, renewable municipal waste, heat pumps, solar thermal and concentrated solar power, photovoltaic, and wind power.
